It’s a sign you have had an incredible weekend away when coming home: with blue stained hands (aka. miner hands) from tie dying a rad new tank top; as the proud owner of a new wood beaded geometric necklace you have made yourself; with a washing machine filled with sweaty yoga clothes. This lovely scenario is all thanks to Miss Alex Mazzerole – founder of Girlvana – host of her very first “lady” retreat ‘Ladyvana‘ over on Galiano Island at Bodega Ridge.

There is a reclaiming of innocence, an uncanny sense of play, and a rawness that occurs when you bring a group of compelling women together. The unspoken power of sisterhood manages to bring itself to the surface and opens up space for women to support, teach and engage with one another in ways that often get lost in the day-to-day.

This weekend retreat did just that. I was fortunate enough to attend this retreat along with 11 other marvelous women. It was a weekend filled with yoga, hikes in the woods, skinny dipping in the ocean, “crafternoons” and evenings filled with wine and conversation that lead into the late hours of the night. Each intently planned by Alex as things providing opportunity to connect with strong women, for moments of clarity, renewed fortitude, and – the best of all – pure joy.

If you have the opportunity, I encourage you to attend the next Ladyvana retreat that Miss Mazerolle hosts – that is if you are a lady – no boys allowed! And if not – if you do nothing else in the next three months – plan a weekend away with your lady friends at Bodega Ridge. It will mean having the best time you have had since going away for Girl Guide Camp – only this time, with access to a credit card and wine.
